Sustainability

We’re here to prove soda can be something better. Something that feels good saying ‘yes’ to. Made with real ingredients. Brewed with care.

What sustainability means to us

We believe that if you make something people put in their bodies every day, responsibility comes with it.

That is why sustainability at YAYA is not a slogan. It is measurable action. Honest reporting. Continuous improvement. Always with taste leading the way.

Why taste matters for sustainability

Can you really choose better if it doesn’t taste good? Better soda starts with better taste. Craft soda does not need to be loaded with sugar to be enjoyable. A conventional can contains around 35 grams of sugar. A can of YAYA contains 15 grams.

That difference matters. More than 2 million people have chosen a lower sugar alternative through YAYA. That adds up to 40,000 kg less sugar consumed.

Who is involved in making YAYA Kombucha?

From the farmers who grow our ingredients to the teams who brew and fill our kombucha, every step matters.

Where possible, we build direct relationships with growers. So we know where our ingredients come from. And who stands behind them.

Ingredients are never just inputs to us. They are the start of a story.

Honeybush: a new chapter

Our Honeybush flavour comes from the Langkloof region in South Africa. We work with The Langkloof Honeybush Company, a producer focused on responsible wild harvesting and regenerative farming practices.

Their goal: protect this unique plant while creating long-term value for the local community. Honeybush has faced pressure from overharvesting in the past. When managed carefully and cultivated regeneratively, it becomes a sustainable crop that supports both biodiversity and livelihoods.

Because good flavour should never come at the cost of the people behind it.

How do our choices affect the planet?

Start at the source

From the start, our kombucha has been 100 percent organic. No synthetic pesticides. No artificial additives.

Organic farming supports healthier soils, greater biodiversity and cleaner water systems. By avoiding synthetic chemicals, it reduces long-term pressure on ecosystems and helps protect the land our ingredients come from.

Better systems. Better ingredients. Lower impact.

Design with intention

Can small design decisions really make a difference? We think they can. That’s why we design every part of our product with environmental impact in mind. Small choices add up over time. Our kombucha is packaged in aluminium cans. They’re lighter to transport. Faster to chill. And infinitely recyclable when collected properly.

We use 100 percent plastic-free packaging. No plastic sleeves on our cans. No plastic tape on our boxes. We rely on printed cans and glued boxes instead. These details may seem small. Together, they make a real difference.

Produce responsibly

Our producer is implementing a fully renewable energy filling line powered by solar panels and biogas recovery.

This builds on existing measures already in place: heat recovery from brewing, and advanced wastewater treatment that returns clean water to the environment, clean enough for fish and wildlife.

A study has been completed for a next-step Reverse Osmosis installation. If implemented, it would allow treated water to be reused in the production process, cutting water use by approximately 50%. Solar panels already cover around a quarter of electricity demand.

Move smarter

We work together with DACHSER, a logistics provider that sees environmental protection as a core responsibility. Since 2022, DACHSER has purchased 100 percent green electricity for all its branches. In 2023 alone, this avoided 54,000 tonnes of CO₂e in Scope 2 emissions.

They are expanding their own photovoltaic systems across Europe, aiming for 20,000 kWp of installed capacity by 2025. That is enough renewable energy to power approximately 5,000 households per year.

What comes next?

Our next ambition is clear. Step by step, we are mapping our CO₂ footprint across packaging, production and transport. Because we can’t reduce what we don’t measure.
